Viola Davis attributes “temporary insanity” to assuming the role of this former first lady.
On a March 26 episode of The Tonight Show, the How To Get Away With Murder alum shared what was on her mind when she took on the role Michelle Obama on Showtime’s upcoming First Ladies series, which chronicles the lives of some of the most famous women in the White House.
“I lost my bloody mind for about five minutes and made a decision that I can’t take back,” Viola explained to the host Jimmy Fallon. “Woman is a goddamn goddess. Everyone knows her, everyone feels like they want to protect her. Here’s the thing: I’ll just do the best I can.”
When asked if she’s spoken to Michelle since her casting, the Oscar-winning actress confirmed she’d done so.
“I’ve been for several hours,” confirmed the actress. “And it’s terrifying. Here’s the thing. Sometimes someone doesn’t do justice to the image you have in your head. But when they do justice to the image, it’s pretty scary.”
