Prince William stood up for England’s black soccer players when they received racist comments – but some fans noticed what they saw as hypocrisy on his part.
After the European Championship final on Sunday, July 11th, in which England lost 3-2 to Italy, William shared a message on Twitter.
The King wrote: “I am sick of the racist abuse directed against English players after last night’s game. It is totally unacceptable for players to endure this heinous behavior.”
He added: “It has to stop now and everyone involved should be held accountable.”
However, fans on the social media site were not receptive to William’s message for a reason: Meghan Markle.
In March, the former duchess reported in an explosive interview Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry. During the interview, Meghan spoke at length about the alleged racism she has suffered from the royal family as well as the British tabloids.
Now, many people are struggling with Williams’ new message on Twitter as they wonder why he is taking a stand now rather than at the height of Meghan’s alleged suffering.
