Tiger WoodsThe team shared an update on his health following his car accident on the morning of February 23.

Tiger received a lengthy treatment on his right leg and ankle, according to a statement posted on the golfer’s Twitter account. He is currently awake and recovering.

“We thank everyone for the overwhelming support and messages during this difficult time,” the statement said. “As previously reported, Tiger was involved in a car accident this morning in California. After being rushed to the hospital, he underwent lengthy surgery on his right lower leg and ankle.”

The post quoted the Chief Medical Officer and Interim CEO of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Anish Mahajan, who stated that Tiger “suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity.”

This included open fractures to his tibial and fibular bones that required insertion of a rod, injuries to the foot and angle that were treated with screws and pins, and trauma to his muscles and soft tissues that required loosening of the muscle envelope.
