The Duke of Edinburgh Queen Elizabeth the secondThe beloved husband, who “peacefully” died on April 9th at Windsor Castle, shared Buckingham Palace. He was 99 years old.
Philip’s death comes two months after he was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London. There the king was treated for an infection and later taken to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he underwent heart surgery in early March and finally returned home on March 16.
Following news of Philip’s death, members of the royal family honored the duke by changing their profile photos on social media. Removing their smiling pictures, Prince William and Kate MiddletonKensington Royal Instagram and Twitter pages as well as Prince Charles and Duchess CamillaClarence House accounts traded for their official coat of arms as a sign of respect. The Queen’s Royal Family Instagram and Twitter have also changed to the British monarch’s royal crest.
In addition, all three Twitter accounts now contain a photo of Philip.
