Oksana Chusovitina got a memorable and well-deserved dismissal after participating in her eighth Olympics

On Sunday, July 25, the 46-year-old gymnast received a standing ovation from her competitors and even from the judges after performing her vault practice at the Tokyo 2020 Games that did not qualify her for the event’s final. The athlete announced that this would be her last Olympic Games.

Oksana, who represented Uzbekistan but previously also represented the Soviet Union and Germany, has participated in all the Olympic Games since the 1992 Barcelona Games. She has won two Olympic medals in the course of her career, including team gold with the Soviet team in 1992 and silver in the vault for the Germans at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Footage from the July 25 NBC show showed Oksana getting whiny after her last routine, in addition to making a heart with her hands and saying “bye” into the cameras.
