It’s been about a decade since the fans met Maddie Ziegler and Kenzie Ziegler on dance mothers.
The show premiered in 2011 – when the sisters were 8 and 6 years old respectively – and quickly became a hit.
“We were pulled out of school every day to dance and film a TV show, which was not normal at all,” recalled Maddie, now 18, of Kenzie, now 16, during an interview for Elite Daily. “We haven’t even finished yet [at our] Elementary school because we got pulled out for work so much. And when we started traveling, people recognized us. I remember we were at an ice cream parlor and someone was calling our names and we were so freaked out. How did these people know us? And then we realized: Oh, our show got a lot of attention.
The reality series followed Abby Lee MillerThe team of young dancers and their mothers prepared for and participated in dance competitions across the country. While Kenzie admitted that growing up in the spotlight was “unusual”, she also said she doesn’t remember what life was like before.
“I don’t think we’ve come to terms with how unusual it was for a 6- and 8-year-old,” Maddie agreed. “Luckily you and me had each other.”
