The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s data released on Tuesday shows that 60% of adults in the US have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.

The milestone is roughly six weeks before July 4th, the deadline for President Joe Biden’s latest vaccination goal of getting 70% of adults on one dose or more.

The U.S. case numbers continued to decline Tuesday, with the seven-day average of new cases per day now at 31,200, according to Johns Hopkins University.

US share of total vaccination vaccinated

Approximately 48% of the US population have received one dose or more of a vaccine, and 38% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.

Of those over 18, 60% are at least partially vaccinated, and in some places this number is even higher. In seven states – Vermont, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, and New Jersey – more than 70% of adults received at least one dose.

US vaccine shots administered

The country reports an average of 1.8 million vaccinations per day over the past week, federal data shows. That number is largely down from its high of 3.4 million daily shots on April 13th.

CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Tuesday that more than 600,000 children ages 12-15 – the last eligible age group – had Covid vaccine shots in the past week.

US Covid cases

According to Hopkins data, the last 7-day average of daily new Covid cases in the US is 31,200. That is 18% less than a week ago. The country reported an average of more than 71,000 cases a day about a month ago.

In 40 states, the number of cases has decreased by 5% or more in the past week.

US Covid deaths

The US reports 614 Covid deaths per day based on a 7-day average from Hopkins data.

A total of more than 587,000 deaths have been reported in the United States since the pandemic began.
