Christina Milian hopes to pay tribute Naya Rivera and her family with her appearance on Step Up.

Starz announced on Monday February 8th that the actress has joined the cast of her revamped Step Up series, playing the role of Collette, which originally starred the late Glee star. “I’m very excited to be joining the Step Up family,” said Milian, 39, in a press release. “I know I have massive shoes to fill. Naya was amazing. I hope to honor Naya, her family, friends and fans with a great performance.”

Rivera died in July 2020 at the age of 33 while boating and swimming with her son Josey on Lake Piru, California. After her body was recovered from the lake, the Ventura County Medical Examiner found that Rivera’s cause of death was drowning and that the cause of death was an accident.

“Naya’s death was a terrible loss to our world that we honestly will never stop mourning,” said Step Up creator and executive producer Holly Sorensen divided. “It was almost impossible to consider that there could be someone so graceful and loving that they could help us honor our loss while bringing a deep reservoir of talent in so many areas to our show.”
